BLAENAU Gwent MP Nick Smith said he is pleased the Welsh Government has supported an application for Circuit of Wales developers to use land for the project.

The Heads of the Valleys Development Company (HOTVDC) has said its £315 million Ebbw Vale race track development will bring 6,000 full-time jobs and an annual 750,000 visitors.

Last week the company was told by the Welsh Government’s deputy minister for farming and food Rebecca Evans that she is “minded to grant them” their section 16 application to de-register common land, subject to consultation with people who would be affected by the project.

Mr Smith said: “I’m pleased this game-changing project has been given support from the Welsh Assembly after the public inquiry.

“It’s up to the developers now to deliver on their vision. Everyone who’s got a stake needs to put their shoulder to the wheel and make this happen.

“If it lives up to its billing, the first race on the Circuit of Wales could be the start of a whole new chapter for Blaenau Gwent’s economy.”
