A TEENAGER appeared in court today facing four charges of manslaughter and causing death by dangerous driving.

The 17-year-old male, from Ebbw Vale, appeared at Brecon youth court and spoke only to confirm his name.

The boy was arrested after schoolgirls, Danielle Caswell, 15, Louise Jones, 16, Kayleigh Parry, 16, and Katie Roberts, 15, died in a tragic car accident on the B4560 between Llangynidr to Beaufort, near Garnlydan in November last year.

The four Glyncoed Comprehensive pupils died after the Vauxhall Corsa in which they were rear seat passengers crashed.

The driver and front seat passenger, both aged 17, were treated in hospital then released.

Magistrates adjourned the case to June 1 to be heard at Merthyr crown court.

Prosecuting, Rhian Millidge told the court today: "They are offences that cannot be heard in a magistrates court and they will have to go to crown."

The case was adjourned for further witness statements, pictures, videos and a map of the area to be collected.

Defending, Bodfan Jenkins said "These matters are denied. He is anxious to proceed with this as soon as possible."

The teenager's family sat at the back of the court room. He was released on unconditional bail.
