A WOMAN allegedly raped repeatedly as a child by a Tredegar man, insisted today that she was telling the truth.

Robin Mark Brown, aged 42, of Maple Avenue, Tredegar, is appearing at Cardiff Crown Court charged with five counts of rape and two counts of indecency with a child.

He denies all the charges.

Under cross-examination by Brown's defence counsel David Elias, his alleged victim denied on several occasions that she had made up all the allegations.

Mr Elias asked her why on successive days last year she had made conflicting statements to police about when Brown had started having sex with her.

"Is it because you are making these things up and not getting them right in your mind?" he said.

She replied: "No."

The woman was also asked by Mr Elias about a discrepancy in those statements - one on paper, one in the form of an interview with police - about how old she said she had been when the abuse started.

The woman said she had been drunk when she made the written statement, shortly after confronting Brown with the allegations.

Mr Elias said: "According to you, it was something that was playing on your mind. How were you unclear (about when it started)?"

She replied: "I was drunk and was not thinking straight."

Mr Elias said she had signed the statement as being accurate, and it was not a question of her saying she had been too drunk to sign it.

"I suggest you are making this up. You have made it up but had to change it because you realised it did not work with the dates," he said.

She replied: "I am not making it up. I disagree."

The court has been told previously that Brown gave his alleged victim presents and told her 'it's our little secret'.

One of the alleged rapes took place on the day her grandmother died.
