ABERSYCHAN residents got creative in a competition to carve the best spooky pumpkin as part of a Hallowe'en competition.

For the second year, the Garndiffaith Millennium Hall committee organised the event by asking the local community to submit a carved pumpkin as part of a competition.

Organiser, cllr Gwyneira Clark said that the response was great with entries increasing from last year.

Even residents at Ty Bryn care home joined in as well as children from Victoria Village School.

Cllr Clark said: “The entries were really lovely to look at and I was really impressed by the level of skill that went into creating them.

“People pulled out all the stops to get creative and wowed the judges.”

Yesterday the pumpkin competition was judged at the hall in Garndiffaith.

Entries included pumpkins entitled The Wolf in the Trees, Cinderella and Pumpkin Jail.

There will be prizes in adult, children and group categories, with the winners being announced at the Hallowe’en party at the Millennium Hall tomorrow (SAT), 6pm to 9pm.

Ms Clark added: “It has been a really good event and the community made a great effort.

“We will definitely hold it again next year as we have had much interest and it brings excitement for the local community.”

The Millennium Hall Hallowe’en party is £2.50 per adult with three children going free per adult.
