A MAN charged with murder following an alleged stabbing in Newport was remanded in custody after appearing before city magistrates today.
Rhys Barnes, 28, is charged with murdering Rhys Jones in Clarence Place, Newport, on Tuesday evening.
The 36-year-old was pronounced dead at Royal Gwent Hospital after being allegedly stabbed.
Barnes, who lives at the Solas homeless charity facility in Clarence Place, appeared in custody before Newport Magistrates' Court.
No plea was entered and he spoke to confirm his name and address.
Solicitor Paul Morris is representing Barnes.
Newport magistrate Gillian Rogers remanded Barnes in custody to appear at Newport Crown Court on Monday.

A 28 year old man from Newport has been charged with the murder of Rhys Jones.
The man, who also received stab wounds, had been arrested on suspicion of murder and had been in police custody since Tuesday night.
He is due to appear at Newport Magistrates Court this morning.
