A NEWPORT firm have raised over £3,500 to contribute to local foodbanks in the attempt to provide hampers for thousands of hungry homes this Christmas.

Working in association with their suppliers and manufacturers, Robert Price Builders’ Merchants Ltd on Corporation Road, have been collecting food and toys as part of a recent scheme, The Robert Price Christmas Community Initiative.

Proceeds donated will be used to stock up food banks across South Wales and will go out to families in Newport, Caerphilly, Torfaen, Blaenau Gwent, Glamorgan, Monmouthshire and Cardiff.

Dave Pattison, of Robert Price, said he was pleased to be part of such a worthwhile project.

“The number of families who rely on food bank donations has increased dramatically over recent years,” he said.

“Our donations included toys and presents too, that can make Christmas really special, and I’d like to thank all our suppliers, who have wholeheartedly supported our initiative.”

Following recent donations, Caerphilly Homes thanked Robert Price for their involvement in providing stock for their foodbank, which has been an annual appeal for the last four years.

Tai Calon Community Housing also praised the firm for their contributions, which have helped raise totals of over £11,000 for local families this Christmas.

The Robert Price Christmas Community Initiative is set to become an annual proposal, with the aim to bring help and support to local families across the region in years to come.
