A CHARITABLE Newport girl has raised just over £200 by cutting 16 inches of her hair which will be donated to the Little Princess Trust.

Tamsin Rowlands, 13, from Bettws, was sponsored by family and friends after she had 16 inches of her hair cut.

The 13-year-olds hair will provide wigs for children to help them cope when they lose their hair during treatment for cancer.

Tamsin’s mother, Debra Rowlands, 46, said Tamsin, who attends Newport High, wanted to raise money and donate her hair to a cancer charity as her grandfather Ron Ackerman died aged just 73 from lung cancer.

Mrs Rowlands said: “I was bursting with pride after Tamsin told me she wanted to raise money and donate her hair to a children’s cancer charity in memory of her grandfather.

“As her parent, I am so very proud of her, especially because she has always taken such great pride in her hair, and for her to cut if off was a big thing.”

After her haircut, Tamsin said she was “overwhelmed” after raising over £200 in sponsorship.

She added: “I feel overwhelmed that my hair is going to help a child out in difficult circumstances and it’s such an easy way to put a smile on someone’s face.

“I just wanted to give something back with it being Christmas and I hope that the money raised can go towards the upkeep of the centre so they can continue the good work.”
