Chief executive of monmouthshire county council, Paul Matthews, has said council crews have been out across the county helping where they can.

He explained that there is a signposted alternative is a route is closed and sandbag crews are responding to all requests.

A yellow warning of rain remains in place across South East Wales by the Met Office.

The warning reads: Bands of heavy, prolonged showers will continue across Gwent tonight and into the first half of Tuesday. Some 10mm of rain could fall in an hour at times locally. Through the whole period an additional 15-25 mm is expected widely across the area and locally up to 50mm, mainly over high ground. Given the saturated state of the ground, be aware of the possibility of surface water flooding.

Strong, gusty winds will be an additional hazard in places with gusts of 50-60mph possible around some exposed coastline.

Flooding reported on the A4042 near the humpback bridge at Abergavenny.

Flooding on Monmouth Road in Usk near the Ladyhill junction. Approach with care.

The A466 Dixton Road in Monmouth blocked around the B4293 Priory Street junction, because of flooding.

South Wales Fire and Rescue service is warning drivers to not drive into flood water as it is not safe, no matter what car you drive.

Natural Resources Wales have issued a flood alert of “flooding is possible. Be prepared” for the rivers Wye and Monnow in Monmouthshire

At 11.45am; the level at Ross on Wye was 3.5 metres and steady, a peak level of 3.6 metres occurred at 8.30am.

The level at Monmouth was 3.8 metres and rising slowly. A peak level of between 3.9 and 4 metres is expected to occur overnight into tomorrow. The rowing club underpass gates are currently open.

The level at Grosmont was 1.8 metres and rising. the level at Skenfrith was 2.1 metres and rising.

The alert for rivers Ebbw, Sirhowy and Lwyd remains in place.

At 12.30pm the level at Cwm was falling. A peak level of 1.3 metres occurred at midday. The level at Abertillery was steady, the level at Aberbeeg was rising, the level at Risca was rising, the level at Rhiwderin was rising, the level at Ynysddu was rising and the level at Ponthir (Ponthir Star Ind Estate) was steady.
