A FORMER teacher of members of the Stereophonics has been given signed memorabilia from the band in a bid to raise money for Newport County Football Club

A drum skin, as well as several photographs, are set to be auctioned or raffled off in a bid to raise money for the club.

Cath Clarke, president of the NCAFC Supporters Club, said she had written to a number of sports and music stars in an appeal for donations to raise money for the club last year.

She said that she believed the band answered the plea due to her close ties to their lead singer, Kelly Jones, whom she taught at Blaengwawr Comprehensive in the Cynon Valley.

“It’s probably because I used to teach them and I was Kelly’s form teacher for five years,” she said.

During her time as a teacher she also supervised a school skiing holiday which fellow band member Richard Jones was on.

Mrs Clarke, who has been president of the supporters club for six years, added she was thankful to the band for the donation:

“They are really kind to do it, especially as they are so busy.”

Bob Herrin, chairman of the supporters club, said that they were still appealing for anyone else to make donations to the auction.

Anyone who would like to make a donation can call him on 01633 274440.
