THE FFWRRWM Ishta in Machen aims to offer high quality food in comfortable pub surroundings and it certainly delivers.

At £45.95 for three courses and drinks for two, the restaurant is a more expensive place to dine out but it is a good place to go for a special occasion.

My partner had a prawn risotto from the specials board to start, which was delicously tasty with a generous helping of juicy king prawns, although probably big enough for most people's main course.

I had the rillette of tikka marinated chicken, served with raita and a mini naan bread.

The rilette, which was similar to a pate, was an unusual but enjoyable way to sample this popular dish.

For mains I went for the mexican style burrito filled with spring vegetables glazed with cheese and sat on a tangy tomato sauce, which again was an extremely generous helping.

There was a large amount of olive oil which made the dish a bit heavy, but there was a lovely array of vegetables topped off with tasty cheese.

My partner had the rump of lamb baked over potatoes, fresh mint and green beans, served with its own jus which was delicious and cooked to perfection.

We also had a side order of vegetables which were a good addition to the meal.

For dessert we could only manage one between us, and chose the rich chocolate pudding soufflé with hot chocolate sauce.

The moist sponge and rich chocolate sauce made this an indulgent end to an excellent meal.
