CURRENT and former members of the armed forces in Wales are being offered free swimming thanks to a £100,000 investment by the Welsh Government.

The cash will be handed to the Welsh Local Government Association over a two-year period to ensure all local authorities in the country are able to take part in the scheme.

Deputy culture minister Ken Skates said: “Participating in sport has many health benefits, both physically and mentally, and swimming in particular is recognised for its all-round improvements to fitness and well-being.

“I am delighted that through our partnership with local government we are able to offer this support to those serving in the armed forces and our veterans, in recognition of their immense service to our country.”

Anyone holding a Defence Privilege Card, available through the Ministry of Defence, will be eligible for free swimming in Wales.
