MORE heavy rain is expected to fall over South Wales this evening, bringing flooding to the region.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Wales with reports of flooding in towns and villages in Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly and Monmouthshire from the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

In the northern areas of Gwent, properties were at risk in Cwm Terrace in Ebbw Vale along with the caravan site in Nantyglo and homes in Manmoel in Blackwood, New Tredegar, Penpedairheol in Caerphillt, Llanelly Hill in Abergavenny and Govilon.

Flood warnings were issued throughout Saturday afternoon, with the rivers Ebbw, Sirhowy, Taff, Rhymney and Usk at risk of bursting their banks.

All five local authorities in Gwent are covered by the yellow weather warning from the Met Office and localised flooding is a risk on highly saturated ground.

The Met Office expects 20-30mm of rain to fall across the region, with 50-70mm falling on south-facing slopes, which may cause possible disruption to travel as strong winds are also expected.

The continued downpour caused the roof of the Ebbw Vale Sports Centre to weaken, prompting an evacuation of the site when the reception ceiling fell in, flooding the building.

Transport networks in Gwent have suffered, with stretches of the M4 reduced to 50mph in places due to adverse driving conditions.

On the A465 Heads of the Valleys Road, a landslide between Brynmawr and Ebbw Vale has closed the eastbound carriageway.
