NEWPORT’S own TV, film and comic convention will be returning for a second year this August.

GeekedFest was launched last year in the Newport Centre by local businessman Shane Richard Jordan.

Last year the comic con saw appearances from stars Ross Mullen, who played the white walker in Game of Thrones, John Challis, better known as Boycie from Only Fools and Horses, and legendary Doctor Who star John Levene, who featured in the original TV series.

The two-day event includes a chance for visitors - who are encouraged to dress up - to meet the stars as well as browse stalls selling a variety of comic books, memorabilia, toys and crafts.

There will also be film and TV exhibits and activities including gaming and cosplay zones.

Mr Jordan, who last year also launched his own comic-book shop Sin City Comics in Cwmbran, said: “We had a great first event in 2015; however with the recent re-development of Newport’s town centre, Friars Walk, we are expecting this year’s event to be even bigger.

“We are also working with several local businesses that have recently moved to Friars Walk.

“We are committed to providing a fun, safe and friendly event for all involved and one that benefits our area and so that we can offer something to locals that has up till now only been available at events in Cardiff.“

Last year Mr Jordan told the Argus how he and his friends decided to set up the annual convention after wanting to create more things for people to do in Newport.

GeekedFest will run on August 6 and 7 at the Newport Centre.

Organisers said they cannot yet reveal the stars at this year’s convention but details of special guests and activities will released in the coming months.

Tickets are due to go on sale in April at www.geekedfest.com but early bird tickets are already on sate at Sin City comics in Cwmbran.
