SIX fire crews are battling a stable fire in Allt Yr Yn - which has left “immense smoke in the sky” in Newport this evening.

Smoke and flashing lights have been seen near the blaze at Brickyard Lane, which has caused smoke to drift across the M4.

An agricultural building, measuring 25ft x 10ft, is ablaze.

Crews from Risca, Malpas, Maindee, Duffryn, Roath and Abersychan are all in attendance along with a water bowser from Aberbargoed.

Four breathing apparatus, one hosereel jet, one 45 litre jet, one ground monitor and a thermal energy camera were all used.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Fire and Rescue service said everyone was accounted for and advised residents to take care if they are in the area.

An eye-witness, a resident at the nearby Ridgeway Close, said the fire was dying down by the second.

She said: “There was this immense smoke in the sky. The clouds are still coming up from there.”
