A COMEDIAN is hoping to bring laughs to Pontllanfraith by launching his own comedy club.

Nick Hiscott, 32, of Blackwood, will launch the Pont Comedy Club at Pontllanfraith RFC, realising his dream of bringing a comedy scene to the area.

Doors will open on Saturday, March 5, attracting touring comedians hailing from Luton and Rhondda to Bedfordshire.

The Blackwood man will perform on the night and hopes the club will be the start of a "thriving comedy scene" in Blackwood.

He said: “We will be hosting four events this year and want to create an excitement around comedy, bringing professional acts to the club.

“The Cardiff scene’s attendance has always been higher and what we want to do with this club is to put Blackwood on the map as a comedy destination.

"I have seen 100 plus people attend comedy nights in this area and it is possible, its all about promotion."

Manufacturing worker Mr Hiscott uses comedy to channel “personal calamities, dilemmas and daily encounters” and has performed 50 plus gigs over the last 18 months.

He added: “Although it would be nice to win comedy club awards, money from the events will also help develop Pontllanfraith RFC.

“I would like to thank them for allowing me to run the night and hopefully together we can bring the comedy scene back to this area.”

The March opening night will start at 7.30pm and entry is £5.
