A BLAENAU Gwent cinema is set to break new ground by launching a flagship arts training programme.

The Market Hall Cinema in Brynmawr, will run a six-month arts training programme, offering young people music, dance and art workshops, a film-school production, poetry and taster sessions, music production master classes and radio presenter training.

The ‘Blaenau Gwent Arts Village’ will be funded by the Ashley Family Foundation in partnership with Creative Kitchen Music, BRFM and Community Music Wales as part of their Children in Need programme.

Julian Gardner from Creative Kitchen Music said: “This is a flagship arts pilot program that we hope will give new and exciting cultural opportunities to one of Wales poorest boroughs, while working hand in hand with The Market Hall team. We hope to secure further funding develop this project into a full three year program of activity.”

Andrea Durban of The Market Hall Cinema added: “With the recent mothballing of the proposed new Arts Centre for Ebbw Vale, it's great to see our beloved Market Hall being used to offer creative workshops to inspire the next generation of musicians, artist and film-makers.”

The Arts Village begins on April 21 with free Community Music Wales Music & Drum taster workshops. Other programmes run from April 30.
