NO CHANGES are to be made to pay arrangement for Newport City Council members this financial year.
Members agreed at a meeting on Tuesday, April 26 to maintain the previous year’s arrangements, which see the council leader – currently Cllr Bob Bright, who is due to leave the post at the end of this month, with a replacement yet to be appointed – paid £48,000, the deputy leader £33,500, cabinet members £29,000, committee chairs between £22,000 and £20,000.
The leader of the opposition – currently Cllr Matthew Evans – will continue to be paid £22,000 while the Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be given allowances of £21,500 and £16,000 respectively. All other members are paid £13,300.
