THE follow-up project to Cwmbran’s Urban Buzzz will be taking shape in May, with a series of events organised next month around the Torfaen town.

Meadow Champions is a collaboration between Bron Afon Community Housing, Torfaen County Borough Council and Cwmbran Community Council, as well as the team behind Urban Buzzz.

The project came second to Ebbw Vale’s ‘Furnace to Flowers’ scheme last year, just missing out on the £120,000 in funding to install wild flowers and plants in Cwmbran.

Steve Caddy, environmental team leader at Bron Afon, said: “We are really looking forward to working with residents to not only bring a much-needed splash of colour to our communities but also to help create havens for bees and butterflies.

“It’s also a great way of bringing younger and older people together and to have some fun into the bargain.

“There will be plenty of activities on offer, including wildflower seed bombing, face painting, refreshments and information stands. We welcome anyone to come along to help us out,” he added.

Bron Afon staff have organised four events, which will take place within the Cwmbran area from Friday, May 6, to Friday, May 13.

All the events run from 2pm to 4pm, and will involve children and adults working alongside one another to help improve the areas in which they live in.

The dates are as follows: Friday, May 6 – Northville; Monday, May 9 – Southville; Wednesday, May 11 – New Inn and finally, Friday, May 13 – Greenmeadow.

All the events are free to attend, and fit into the Grow Wild programme, which hopes to transform communal spaces in towns and cities into vibrant habitats for bees and other pollinators.
