A CALDICOT man has put down the razor and shaving cream and has risen over £200 for charity for his efforts.

Tony Heare, from Caldicot, has shaved his head and face since his late teens.

But he decided to do something a little different after becoming tired of constantly shaving.

He decided to try and grow his hair and beard and asked for people to sponsor him, while suggesting a charity to donate to.

The 59-year-old radio presenter chooses a different event or activity each year to raise money for different charities.

His events so far have included hosting two 24-hour live radio shows for the Royal Gwent’s hospital station, and giving up coffee for the year.

Mr Heare has already hit his target of £200, but is hoping to set the bar even higher with sponsors.

He said: “At the moment, I have had 18 sponsors and we are over the £200 mark - anything extra from now on is a bonus.

“My family and friends have been very supportive with their donations and comments - ten weeks is a long time.

“My surname is pronounced 'hair' and the day I have it all shaved off will be called the 'Heare Bare' day.”

Mr Heare is still accepting donations and charity suggestions until he gets his head shaved on Tuesday, May 31.
