HOLLYWOOD star Ioan Gruffudd and comedian Lee Mack will take part in a celebrity golf tournament at Newport's Celtic Manor Resort.

The annual Celebrity Cup pits teams of celebrity golfers representing England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales against each other over nine holes.

Lee Mack, who stars in sitcom Not Going Out, will make his debut for Team England in the tournament on July 8-9.

“Although the thought of standing on the first tee at Celtic Manor in front of so many people fills me with dread, my nerves are calmed knowing that whatever I do Rob Brydon is capable of doing even worse,” he said.

Other celebrity golfers taking part include Rob Brydon as captain of Wales and Brendan O’Carroll of Mrs Brown Boys, as Ireland’s captain.

Captain Mark Tindall, Anton du Beke, Peter Jones, Ben Shephard and Denise van Outen complete the England line-up.

Mr Gruffudd, who played TV’s Hornblower and Mr Fantastic in the Fantastic Four movies, will jet in from Los Angeles to make his second appearance at the tournament for Team Wales.

He previously played in the inaugural Celebrity Cup in 2013 and is joined this year by skipper Brydon, Jonathan Davies, Sir Gareth Edwards, Phil Glenister and Gethin Jones.

The event is presented by Bulmers and showcases music, food and bar outlets in a tented village and the opportunity to “Get into Gold” in an interactive zone sponsored by Principality Building Society.
