A REVAMPED pub has re-opened following a £160,000 investment.

Ponthir House has undergone considerable investment, with Monmouth MP David Davies joining publican Barrie Walden for a tour.

The pub, located in the village of Ponthir, received the funding from national pub operator Punch.

The money has seen the pub’s interior updated with new flooring, fixtures and fittings and brand new furniture, as well as a new kitchen and toilets.

Externally, the pub has improved lighting along with new garden furniture and planters to update the patio area and large beer garden.

Mr Walden, who took over the pub in September, said he is keen to firmly establish Ponthir House as the focal point of the community once again.

The first-time landlord said: “I am really excited about the new look of the pub and I’m delighted it’s now a welcoming and relaxed place to enjoy food and drink.

“Thanks to the investment from Punch and the support and training they’ve provided, I have a pub to be proud of.”

David Davies MP said: “It’s great that this local pub can now welcome the local community and I’m happy to raise a glass to its future success. I wish Barry the very best.”
