OAKDALE'S centenary celebrations are well underway with an art exhibition by local artists proving hugely successful.
Paintings, wood carvings and crafts were on display all last week at the Presbyterian Chapel in Oakdale, and the display was so popular organisers extended it for an extra day.
One of the organisers Eirlys Jones said: "It was excellent. We extended it until Wednesday evening because of the number of people that turned up.
We've had between 100 and 150 come to see it, and because everyone enjoyed it so much it was extended.
It was meant to close early in the morning but we kept it open until Wednesday evening."
Mrs Jones said the celebrations of Oakdale's centenary year will continue for the best part of a year.
This Friday, 500 junior school children will take part in a sporting and healthy eating activity day on Oakdale recreation ground.
They will get to have fun playing a whole variety of sports, as well as tasting fruit kebabs and other healthy treats.
On Saturday, a World War II, Dakota aeroplane will fly over the village at 1pm.
Celebration organisers are encouraging as many people to go to the centre of the village and wave it over.
