A SPORTSCAR was wrecked when it crashed near a pedestrian crossing in Cwmbran last night.
Emergency services were called to the crossing on Llanfrechfa Way, Llanyrafon, near to Cwmbran Boating Lake at 8.23pm on May 29.
Firefighters made the area safe and said there were no reports of any injuries.
Eyewitness Nigel Hunt, who lives near to the scene and saw the aftermath of the crash, said: “We were approached by our elderly neighbour who lives nearer to the scene advising us that he had lost his power.
"We reported this to the emergency services on his behalf.
“There have been a number of serious incidents in the last few years.
"Due to the close proximity to Cwmbran Boating Lake there are often families walking in the area.”
A spokeswoman from South Wales Fire and Rescue confirmed that just one car was involved in the crash.
Wales and West Utilities and Western Power were both contacted about a power shortage.
