MORE than 400 people attended free sessions of a new fitness class launched recently.

Three sports centres in Abertillery, Ebbw Vale and Tredegar each ran a day of free taster sessions of two new exercise classes - Bodypump and Grit - run by international fitness group Les Mills.

The sessions, run by Aneurin Leisure, were also live-streamed on Facebook, and watched an incredible 34,000 times.

Anthony Hughes, managing director of Aneurin Leisure, said: “We are passionate about encouraging people to think about their well-being and providing quality services that can help them to achieve their aspirations and improve their general health and fitness.

"With this in mind we have combined our most popular fitness classes such as spin and kettlebells with a brand new range of Les Mills group exercise classes, which merge physical and digital techniques to provide an innovative new experience.”

A report by Public Health Wales published last year showed Blaenau Gwent had the eighth highest rate of child obesity in Wales, and the highest in Gwent.

The sessions were run over three days from May 16 to May 18.
