A MAINDEE man has spoken of the area’s “huge” dog fouling problem after capturing footage of a dogwalker apparently not picking up after their dog.

Brian Abdie, of Church Road, uploaded the clip showing the woman from his personal CCTV camera onto Twitter on Sunday, May 29.

The camera was installed as a precaution after Mr Abdie and his wife’s cars were damaged in the past.

“It’s a huge problem in Newport, and an even bigger problem in Maindee. It’s absolutely disgusting,” said Mr Abdie.

“People just think it’s okay to come along, let their dog to what it has to do and just walk off.

“We need something on the street to prevent this from happening.”

According to Mr Abdie, a common excuse from dogwalkers is that they don’t have any waste bags while walking their dogs.

Councillor Bob Poole, Newport City Council’s Cabinet Member for Regulatory Functions, said: “It is appalling that irresponsible dog owners do not pick up after their animals and blight our streets.

“Our community safety wardens are patrolling the streets daily and since the beginning of April have issued nearly 300 fixed penalty notices for a variety of offences. We are unable to take action in this case at this stage as we do not know the identity of the person in the video.”
