POLICE have issued a warning on the dangers of 'lethal' veterinary drugs if consumed by humans after a quantity of drugs were stolen in further break-ins of vet practices in Gwent.

The appeal comes after Budget Vets on Somerset Street in Abertillery was broken into sometime overnight on Wednesday, May 25 to Thursday, May 26 (between 6pm and 8am). Around £10,000 (trade value) of veterinary drugs, including: Ketamine, Pentoject and Buprenorphine were stolen. (log: 73 26/05/15)

Two further practices have now been targeted including Sanders Vets, Maindee House Veterinary Surgeon on Mount Pleasant Road in Cwmbran, which has been targeted twice.

The burglary took place sometime between Friday, June 3 and Saturday, June 4, whereby a Guide Dog Charity box was stolen together with Libromide and Prednisolone tablets, Milbemax and Droncit Worming Tablets.

Also, sometime between Saturday, June 11 to Sunday, June 12, from 12.30am to 9.50am, the premises was entered but nothing was stolen on this occasion. (Log: 220 12/06/16)

On Monday, June 13, the Riverside Veterinary Centre, Riverside, Ebbw Vale was targeted, where a charity box, cash and a quantity of animal drugs were stolen. (Log: 97 13/06/16)

Detective Inspector Amanda Thomas said: "I want to remind people that these drugs can be lethal to humans and we're warning anyone who comes into contact with these, that if consumed, they could potentially be putting their life in danger. We're keen to speak to anyone who may have been offered these drugs or knows of anyone offered the drugs."

"I'd also like to ask anyone who has any information on these burglaries to please call 101 immediately, quoting the log number or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. At this moment in time we do not believe the incidents are related but enquiries are on-going."
