A WOMAN who suffers from fibromyalgia and osteoporosis is walking across Severn Bridge in fancy dress with her best friend to raise money for charity.

Lisa Pensom, of Chepstow and her friend Donna Church, of Caldicot are hoping to raise £500 each for Cancer Research and the Huntington’s Disease Association next month.

Mrs Pensom, 36, who has osteoporosis, fibromyalgia and arthritis, has said she is determined to walk the bridge in memory of her father Dennis Arthur Jones, who passed away two years ago from terminal lung cancer.

As her father’s death had a massive impact on Mrs Pensom and her entire family, she believes the walk will help her remember him.

She said: “In a way I think the walk will help me come to terms with it.

“It has been very emotional for my mum in particular.

“I think he [dad] would be proud of me, as being the youngest I have always been the baby.”

Her friend Ms Church, 25, will support her along the way and raise money for the Huntington’s Disease Association, which her father Christopher Church suffers from.

Mrs Pensom said: “I’m excited to do the walk with Donna, who is one of my closest friends.

“The walk will be difficult, and I reckon it will take us three or four hours but I am determined to do it.”

“We will both be dressing up for the walk. I’m dressing up as the old bloke from UP because I am using a Zimmer frame, and Donna is dressing up as Elsa from Frozen.”

The two friends have known each other for 12 years after meeting through a mutual friend.

They decided to take on the Severn Bridge walk after having a conversation about how to help people that have been in the same position as themselves and having family member’s suffering with cancer or Huntington’s.

Mrs Pensom said she’s proud of her friend for joining in the walk and raising money for Huntington’s Disease.

“I look up to her in a way even though she is younger than me, she looks after her dad a lot and travels from Caldicot to Newport to see him three times a week.”

The two women are walking across the bridge on Saturday, July 23rd.
