A GAMER took on a 24-hour online playing session to fundraise for a disabled three year old.

Father of two Chris Brideaux from Pontllanfraith took part in a marathon streaming session last week with a group of online friends in a bid to raise £3,500 for a specialist bed for his cousin’s daughter Aurora.

Three year-old Aurora Jones suffers from global development delay and hypermobility, which means she suffers from developmental delays.

From 10am on Thursday morning to just past 10am on Friday, nearly 30 gamers from all around the world - all part of Mr Brideaux’s clan ‘The Lost Boys’ - gathered to play the shooting computer game Destiny to support of the cause.

Mr Brideaux, 32, said: “I have two children but there is something really special about Aurora, she’s always smiling and bubbly with an infectious smile. She is just such a happy child.

“I have been raising money for the past six weeks but it snowballed during the 24 hours itself.

"Everyone I game with, even though I have never met any of them have been really supportive and a lot of them donated in thanks for all that I have done in setting up our clan, which is just amazing.”

The bed is specialised for Aurora’s needs and is similar to a large cushioned cot so that she is unable to accidentally harm herself in the night.

Whilst she is yet to be fully diagnosed, the family do not receive any state support and anything to help the three year-old with her condition has to be privately financed.

During the marathon challenge, one of Mr Brideaux’s gaming friends, Dave Levers from the midlands, did the entire 24 hours with him.

Mr Brideaux said: “We have people in the clan from Denmark, Germany, the Czech Republic and the USA which is just phenomenal. Because we have an ethos of being casual gamers, just there for a laugh and having no big egos, we have become inundated with people wanting to join.

“That selflessness and mutual respect is why the 24-hour marathon was so successful and I received such strong support. If you said to me I would have got that from people I haven’t met before then I wouldn’t have believed you. Even my wife has been taken aback by it all.”

So far, Mr Brideaux has raised more than £2,000 and is hoping to break his target over the coming week before presenting the final amount to his cousin Jessica Jones.
