THE two-man crew of a speedboat were rescued from the River Usk in Newport tonight.
The pair had been cruising up and down the river when their boat broke down.
After a number of failed attempts to restart the boat's motor, the pair drifted for some time before firefighters arrived at the scene.
The men managed to steer their boat to the east bank of the river near the City of Newport footbridge before clambering up the mud banks with the help of firefighters at shortly after 7.30pm.
The men left the scene on foot.
Their boat remains on the river bank.
