A TEAM of army cadets have raised more than £12,000 for the NSPCC by tackling the Snowdon Moonlight Challenge.

Army Cadet Force Wales, who are based across the country, scaled the highest mountain in Wales in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The team, made up of members of Gwent & Powys Army Cadet Force, Clwydd & Gwynedd Army Cadet Force and Dyfed & Glamorgan Army Cadet Force, have been praised as ‘inspirational’ after completing the climb.

The 21km trek saw the cadets guided by moonlight, as well as their own glow sticks, to reach the top of Snowdon.

The 34 cadets, who were part of a total of 150 climbers scaling the 1,085m mountain, have helped the Snowdon Moonlight Challenge raise more than £60,000.

It is the first year that the cadets have taken part in the gruelling climb in aid of the NSPCC.

Des Mannion, head of NSPCC Cymru, said: “If it wasn’t for fundraisers like the cadets we wouldn’t be able to carry on the work that we do to protect children from harm and abuse.

“I would like to congratulate them on completing the Snowdon Moonlight Challenge and thank them for raising much-needed funds for the NSPCC.

“All of the money raised will help us continue providing direct help to families, as well as funding our programme of school visits where we educate thousands of children on how to stay safe from abuse.”
