A NEW 48-hour dispersal order will be put into place in the Greenmeadow area of Cwmbran, starting at 4pm this afternoon.

The dispersal order is in place, which falls under Section 35 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, following ongoing reports of disorder and criminal damage in the area.

It follows a previously issued dispersal order by Gwent Police, which is set to finish today at 4pm after it was implemented on Wednesday, September 21.

The designated area of the order will include: Clyffes, Barnets, Woolpitch, Bowleaze, Byways, Ravenscourt, Mere Path, Marloes Path, Ty Gwyn Road from junction of Ty Gwyn Way to Archer Road and all other roads and streets in between.

Officers will be patrolling the area and will have the authority to direct anyone behaving anti-socially away from the area. If they return to that area after being moved on, they face being arrested.

Inspector David Morgan said: "I have authorised this dispersal order in order to continue tackling the issues of criminal damage and public order in the Greenmeadow area.

"My officers have conducted foot patrols throughout the evenings and have dispersed youths from the affected areas.

“We have listened to the victims of the criminal damage offences that took place on Tuesday and Wednesday and are determined to provide reassurance to this affected community.

"We are working closely with our key partners to ensure that long term solutions can be identified.

Torfaen County Borough Council’s Community Safety Department is installing CCTV and Bron Afon will take action against their tenants if their children are found to be responsible."

Anyone who witnesses acts of anti-social activity is urged to report it to 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

The order will come to an end at 4pm on Sunday, September 25.
