UPDATE: 1.30pm

A spokeswoman for Wales Air Ambulance confirmed that an air ambulance attended the scene.

A helicopter was mobilised at 8.39am but were stood down before they landed on the scene. They cleared the area at 8.57am.

A rapid response vehicle, an emergency ambulance and a BASICS doctor from the Welsh Ambulance Service and took the injured man to hospital.

Gwent Police have released a statement on the incident.

A spokeswoman said: "At approximately 8:20am on Tuesday, October 18 2016, Gwent Police were called to the M4 near to the Brynglas Tunnels (Westbound) after concerns for a person’s safety.

"A man has been taken to the University Hospital of Wales with serious injuries."

UPDATE 9.31am

A MAN has been taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff after an incident along the M4 near the Brynglas Tunnels.

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said that police responded to the scene at arppoximately 8.20am after concerns were raised of a person's safety.

The road is now fully open in both directions.

AN incident on the M4 near Newport has caused one lane to be closed.

Queuing traffic has been reported on the motorway heading westbound between Junction 24, A48 (Coldra) and Junction 25, A4042 (Caerleon) due to a police incident.
