A SEVENTH person has been arrested and charged in connection with the night disturbance in Pill on Thursday, October 20.

A 16-year-old boy will appear before court on Tuesday, November 8, after he received bail.

So far, five people, aged 13 to 24, have been arrested and charged with violent disorder in Newport, which saw riot police and members of the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service attending at around 8.35pm.

On Saturday, 24-year-old Gary Radford of Bowen Place appeared at Newport Magistrates Court after he was arrested and charged for violent disorder.

He was remanded in custody and will re-appear in crown court on Monday, November 21.

Two 13-year-old boys and another 16-year-old boy, who is appearing before court today for breach of bail conditions, have also been charged with violent disorder and will appear before court on Tuesday, November 22.

A charge of violent disorder can carry a sentence of up to 14 years in prison.

Two further people – a 17-year-old girl and a 20-year-old man – have both been charged with breaching a dispersal order. Both are set to appear in court in November.

The pair have also been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and have been bailed until Thursday, November 10.

Local Policing Commander Glyn Fernquest said: “We are still reviewing CCTV footage to identify others involved. I’d also like to urge any members of the public with footage or information of the incident contact us.”
