A FUNDRAISING day will be taking place next month for a Monmouthshire baby in need of 24 hour special care.

Llewelyn Pavis, of Usk, was diagnosed with Hirschsprung’s Disease when he was just three-days-old.

The rare condition, which affects the bowels and can cause severe constipation and blockages, is mainly prevalent in babies and small children.

But after Llewelyn underwent surgery to take out part of his bowel at six-weeks-old, he suffered brain damage.

The eight-month-old now needs 24 hour care and suffers visual impairment.

He has to have six doses of anti-seizure and stomach calming medicine a day.

Llewelyn’s monthly therapy sessions take place in London and cost around £800 for three days, along with a monthly physio session, neurology check-ups and a weekly baby massage.

The expenses can be difficult to afford for family.

To help pay for the treatments, Llewelyn’s family will host a special fundraising event, called Life 4 Llewie, on December 3.

His auntie, Charlotte Pavis, 25, said the past year has been incredibly difficult for the family, but she is hoping the day will help raise enough money for specialist therapy sessions and sensory equipment.

Miss Pavis said: “It’s been so hard on everyone, especially my sister Khloe (Llewelyn’s mum). He has spent 50 per cent on his life in hospital at the moment, and he was registered as blind around three weeks ago.

“We’re just hoping we can raise as much as possible to go towards helping Llewie.”

The Life 4 Llewie fundraiser day will be held at the Glascoed Pub in Monkswood, from 11am to 4pm.

There will be a bouncy castle, face painting, a raffle and tombola.
