A GWENT dad has been left furious after his children's Christmas presents were left in a smelly bin by a delivery driver.

Anthony Thomas can't give his gifts to his son and daughter - after they were left on top of dirty rubbish by a Yodel worker.

Mr Thomas has since released CCTV footage of the moment earlier this week when the delivery driver, dressed in a hi-vis jacket, approaches the house with two parcels.

He knocks the door but gets no answer, so then goes next door and tries the neighbours but they are not in either.

So the driver then opens bins outside Anthony's house and leaves the packages in them.

Mr Thomas, 37, said: "The items were for my children and after being in a bin they won't be having them.

"There are black units in the garden which would have been more suitable."

The driver left a note saying the parcels had been left in a secure location - it stated: "In green bin (No answer at neighbours)."

Mr Thomas, of Caerphilly stated that the driver "had no idea" what was in the boxes and could have easily been "contaminated" by the rubbish.

He added: "This was a refuse bin which contains everything, from dead rats if they have been discarded and dog mess that has been picked up and binned."

A Yodel spokesman said: "We apologise for any inconvenience caused to the customer.

"Retailers often request that we leave a parcel in a safe dry location if the customer isn't in.

"We have guidelines that clearly have not been adhered to in this instance and we are investigating and will take appropriate action.

"Where possible, we ask shoppers to let their retailer know where their preferred safe place is when they make their order, so we can ensure that their goods arrive in perfect condition."
