GWENT could be poised for snow following a new weather warning issued by the Met Office.
The yellow warning was issued at around midday today and will come into effect from 10am on Thursday.
It reads that rain moving east across the south of the UK may turn to snow in places, which include Newport, Torfaen, Monmouthshire, Blaenau Gwent and Caerphilly.
While the Met Office have said that snow settling is "unlikely", drivers are warned that it could cause disruption on the road.
Associated heavy rain and strong winds may prove additional hazards.
The chief forecaster's assessment states: "If the area of heavy rain moves further north, this would pull cold air into the system and bring snow to parts of southern England and south Wales.
"At the same time heavy rain will likely persist in some areas along with the potential for some locally strong winds."
