A CWMBRAN woman who raised more than £2,000 for a cancer charity after her cousin’s three-year-old son died of Leukaemia wants to give hope to “all the little super heroes fighting cancer”.

Emma Neale, of Cwmbran, joined together with a group of friends to help raise money for Children With Cancer UK after her cousin’s son Kai Nell was diagnosed with Acute Myloid Leukaemia at the age of one.

The little boy lived in Australia with Emma’s cousin Kara Nell and her family – who are originally from Cwmbran – and battled the disease for two years but passed away last week on January 12, the day before the charity event.

However, Mrs Neale and her family held still held the event in Cwmbran Working Men’s Club last Friday to help raise money for Children With Cancer UK in memory of Kai.

Mrs Neale said: “It’s something which has been really hard hitting for the entire family. He had two bone marrow transplants but had two relapses. One of the transplants was from his brother and that was his last option but sadly he relapsed from that.

“I started the event before we found out it was terminal.

“Kai was in my heart and my head all night. He was just such a happy little boy, through everything he went through he never complained once, he was always smiling and when he could he would always be up dancing.”

“He had so much love around him right until the end. There is still hope, hope that we can find a cure for cancer to help all the little superheroes fighting a tremendously hard battle.”

The event at the working men’s club in Cwmbran included live music, a disco and raffle, and the night, along with a charity walk up Pen-y-fan raised around £2,300.

Speaking about the event, Mrs Neale said: “It went amazing, 130 people turned up and we had a cake sale, raffle and silent auction. Everyone was so generous.

“It was difficult for us with Kai passing the day before, but in my head, I needed to do it, for Kai and those other babies going through the same thing.”

Thousands of people posted tributes to Kai and his family on a public Facebook page called Team Kai – Beating Acute Myloid Leukaemia.
