REPRESENTATIVES of the heads of the Circuit of Wales project have made an official complaint to the Parliamentary watchdog about the conduct of MP David Davies.

Monmouth MP Mr Davies said last week that he had recorded a meeting he held with Circuit of Wales CEO Martin Whitaker and chief executive of the Heads of the Valley Development Company Michael Carrick in July 2016.

He also revealed that he was told that BMW and General Electric were interested in investing in the site - which has since been denied by both companies.

Solicitors representing Mr Whitaker and Mr Carrick have now written to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards in regard to Mr Davies’ conduct citing a “gross breach of trust” towards their clients.

The MP has made a complaint to the auditor general for Wales about Mr Whitaker and Mr Carrick.

Mr Davies said: “I will not let this rest and I am deeply, deeply concerned about this gross misuse of public money.

“The issue is that Martin Whitaker and Michael Carrick asked for a meeting with me and at no stage did they say it was confidential.”

The Monmouth MP is currently prevented from publishing the recording, as he requires the consent of the two businessmen.

A spokeswoman for the Office of the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards said: “I can confirm that the Commissioner has received a complaint concerning the conduct of Mr David TC Davies MP and is currently considering the matter.”

A spokesman for the Wales Audit Office said: “Following recent correspondence from a Member of Parliament, he is currently examining certain aspects of the Welsh Government’s support for the [Circuit of Wales]project.

“His work to date has identified some further aspects that will be reviewed in greater depth, including the £7.35 million bank guarantee provided by the Welsh Government.

“However, and as is usual with audit work of this nature, we are unable to provide you with a timescale for its completion.”
