PEOPLE in Gwent who live with a chronic and restrictive lung disease are set to receive targeted help to better self-manage their illness.
The British Lung Foundation in Wales has been awarded a grant of almost £240,000 to run self-management and support programmes for people in three health board areas who live with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
The charity’s project will be funded by a Big Lottery People and Places grant and will cover the Aneurin Bevan, Cwm Taf, and Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board areas.
These are areas identified as having high rates of respiratory disease, in large part as a legacy of their industrial pasts.
The aim is that COPD patients will be offered specialist self-management and exercise support to better manage their condition and to enable them to lead fuller more active lives.
The grant will cover a three-year period, and will fund salaries and project running costs.
