THIS week’s #SeneddNewport event continued yesterday with organisations across the city learning more about the Assembly and its work.

The project has seen number of events and committee meetings hosted throughout Newport as part of an effort to help people understand more about how the Assembly makes decisions.

As part of the series, a presentation was held at the head office of the Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations, also known as Ty Derwen, in Church Road, Newport.

Jane Shatford, third sector development officer for GAVO in Newport, said: “We have had a representative from the Welsh Assembly give a presentation to community groups, charities and third sector organisations.

“They learnt how organisations can influence the business at the assembly.

“It was a very interesting session.

“The feedback we have had is that it was extremely helpful.”

She said they had representatives from 25 community groups, charities and organisations, such as British Red Cross, Wastesavers and Newport Citizen’s Advice.

Other events held this week included the school council at Newport High School taking part in an workshop run by an education staff member from the Assembly.

The students learnt about devolution and what decisions are made in the Senedd.
