GWENT Police are investigating an alleged theft from a hospital ward at the Royal Gwent Hospital, where four rings – including two valued at more than £1,000 – were stolen.

In addition to the jewellery, the victim, who was a patient at the time of the incident, reported that a quantity of money was also taken.

Investigating officers understand that the incident is believed to have taken place at some time between Thursday, March 30 and Sunday, April 2.

The jewellery is described as: a platinum diamond solitaire ring and a gold diamond and sapphire ring – both worth more than £1,000 – as well as a silver ring and the victim’s husband’s gold wedding ring.

A spokesman for the hospital's health board - the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board - confirmed they are working with the police following the incident.
