THE UK’s only 24-hour velodrome challenge will return to Newport in October, writes Jack Simmonds.

For its third consecutive year, Cyclone24 will take riders on a physical and mental battle during the 24 hour track cycle relay at Wales’ National Velodrome, Newport, on October 22 and 23.

Having already raised more than £60,000 for charities including The Wallich, this year the event will be fundraising for Velindre Cancer Centre.

Elinor Barker, who won gold for Wales in the World Track Cycling Championships 2017 in Hong Kong, is calling for businessmen and women across Wales to swap their suits for lycra.

Numerous businesses around Wales have already signed up their teams to take part including many Cardiff businesses such as Faithful & Gould, Hodge Bank, Cardiff Blues, Cardiff & Vale College and event sponsor Stills Branding.

Director of Stills Steve Stulley said: “Cycling is such a fantastic sport to take part in and I don’t think anyone can fail to have been impressed by the fantastic achievement of the Elinor Barker.

"We look forward to welcoming all new and returning cyclists to this year’s Cyclone24.”

Velindre is encouraging cyclists of all abilities to take inspiration from the Track Cycling World Championships and sign themselves up for the challenge.

Training sessions will be provided before the event.
