A MAN has been taken to hospital following an incident in Newport.

The incident took place on London Street in the Maindee area of the city.

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: "At approximately 3:30pm on Wednesday 19th April 2017 we received reports of public order on London Street in Newport.

"One male has been arrested and is in police custody at this time."

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called at 3.40pm to reports of an incident in the Maindee area of Newport.

"We sent two paramedics in rapid response vehicles and a crew in an emergency ambulance and a male was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital in a stable condition."

An eyewitness at the scene said: "When I pulled the police were coming out of the house on London Street. Outside the house there was ambulance and paramedic. People had come out of their houses and were out in the street.”
