RESIDENTS in Pill have voiced disgust after a burnt-out car was dumped in the area yesterday, Wednesday, morning.

This is the third vehicle to be dumped in Pill in just over a month, it has been claimed.

Chairman of community group Pride in Pill Paul Murphy said he was “outraged” at discovering the destroyed vehicle in Pill Park.

“I think it’s disgusting,” he said.

“This is the third time this has happened now as well.

“Cars were put here as well on March, 17 and 20 and I think it’s not on.

“I don’t understand who would do this.”

He added: “There’s glass all over. I hope the kids will be fine because they use this route.”

Mohammad Rahman, who lives near the site, said the car “makes the area look ugly”.

He said: “The car has destroyed the grass and people work past there often.

“Someone must have gone out of their way to do that.

“It’s appalling and whoever did this needs catching.”

A spokeswoman from Newport City Council said the council was aware of the vehicle and was arranging for it to be removed.

A spokeswoman from Gwent Police said: “At approximately 12.12am on Wednesday, April 19 2017, we received reports of an abandoned vehicle near Pillgwenlly Park.

“The vehicle has been located and recovered for examination.

“It was noted that vehicle had damaged fencing of the play area.”

Information can be reported to Gwent Police on 101, quoting incident 08 of April 19.
