AN inquest has been opened into the death of a 78-year-old woman from Abergavenny, who was found dead in February.
Senior coroner for Gwent David Bowen was told that the body of Pamela Butler, a retired shop assistant, was found when police officers attended an address in Park Close, Abergavenny, on the morning of Wednesday February 22.
A post mortem examination was carried out at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, but the cause of death was unascertained, and further investigations are being carried out.
Mr Bowen adjourned the inquest for three months while investigations are completed, and released Mrs Butler’s body for funeral purposes.
An 83-year-old man also at the Park Close address on February 22, was taken to hospital and was subsequently arrested in connection with Mrs Butler’s death.
Gwent Police have confirmed that he has since been released, pending further inquiries.
