RSPCA Cymru have appealed for information after two cats have died in the Caerphilly area.

The two cats, named Louie and Scoob, were put to sleep on veterinary advice with symptoms consistent with poisoning.

The cats lived on Stanley Street in the Senghenydd area.

Both poisonings took place on separate days, with Louie put to sleep on April 3, and Scoob five days later.

A vet found that Louie had acute onset of rental failure, likely to be linked with anti-freeze poisoning. Scoob, meanwhile, was found to have acute renal failure.

Anyone with relevant information is being urged to contact the RSPCA’s inspectorate appeal line. Local cat owners have also been urged to be cautious at this time, following these Caerphilly-based incidents.

RSPCA inspector Sophie Daniels said: “Our thoughts are with Louie and Scoob’s owner, following these shocking reports from the Senghenydd area.

“Though we do not know if these poisonings were intentional or deliberate, it is hugely concerning to learn of two cat deaths within the local area.

“We understand these poisoning incidents to have taken place in early April - and we are urging anyone with any information to contact our inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018. Calls are treated in confidence.

“It's also important cat owners in Senghenydd are vigilant at this time. If somebody suspects a poisoning, it's vital they remain calm, move the pet from any suspected source of poison, and contact a vet straight away."

Rhian Hardy, owner of Louie and Scoob, said: "No owner should have to see their cats end up in the way Louie and Scoob did. It was such a horrible, horrible experience.

"The whole family is so sad, and the kids are absolutely devastated. We have one cat remaining, who is now missing the others so much. It’s been such a tough time.”
