A MUM has been left unable to work after she was hospitalised following an alleged assault in Abertillery town centre.

Jade Morgan, 26, was queuing with a friend in the kebab shop in Somerset Street, Abertillery, early on Sunday, April 23, when two women are said to have started shouting abuse towards her.

In an unprovoked attack, the two women are alleged to have grabbed Mrs Morgan by the hair and neck, dragging her out of the shop and on to the street.

Mrs Morgan said she was punched in the face and kicked while lying in the street, unable to move.

She said she was scratched and that one of the women was “stamping” on her face.

The assault was stopped with the help of a bouncer, who prevented Mrs Morgan from being further injured.

An ambulance was called and Mrs Morgan was taken to Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny with injuries to the face, legs and neck.

“I could not see properly for days,” said Mrs Morgan, who works as a safeguarding officer and care assistant at Ty Gwyn Hall in Abergavenny.

“I had to wear sunglasses because any light caused me to have a headache.

“I am recovering but the mental impact of what happened is still strong.

“I don’t feel like I can even leave the house safely. It is disgusting what has happened.”

Mrs Morgan, who has a three-year-old daughter, said she has been left unable to work since the attack, and has had to go back to hospital on two occasions.

She is hoping to return to work as soon as she has recovered.

Mrs Morgan’s husband, John, said he was shocked by the attack.

“I have lived in Abertillery all of my life and I have never seen people attack a young woman like that,” he said.

“My wife has lived here five or six years and this is the first incident that has happened.

“It is not the sort of thing you would expect.”

Police were called to the incident and investigations are ongoing.

A spokeswoman for Gwent Police said: “At around 1.35am on Sunday, April 23, we were called to reports of an alleged assault of a woman by two other women on Somerset Street, Abertillery. One of the women received medical treatment for her injuries which were not thought to be serious.

“No arrests have been made and inquiries are ongoing.”
