THE first minister of Wales visited Blaenau Gwent and Newport on the campaign trail today.

Carwyn Jones joined Blaenau Gwent Labour candidate Nick Smith in visiting Ebbw Vale Market this morning.

Mr Smith said: “I am delighted to welcome Carwyn and introduce him to local people.

“It is a chance for them to discuss the issues that really matter – like jobs and investment with the First Minister.

“The investment by the Welsh Labour government in the road and rail we need to ensure fast, easy access to the valleys is vital to its regeneration.

“The Heads of the Valleys road dualling from Gilwern to Brynmawr is just what locals want – and the £200 million investment that is a shot in the arm for Blaenau Gwent.”

Mr Jones then joined Labour candidates Paul Flynn and Jessica Morden in Newport, and visited Westgate Square and Stow Hill.
