GWENT Police have launched an appeal for information to help identify a man driving a red van who allegedly approached a teenage girl in Rogerstone.

The incident occurred at around 7.10pm on Saturday, May 20 in St John’s Crescent and CCTV footage captured the van driving past a store near to the time of the alleged event.

The van is believed to be a small, red Ford Escort van and the motorist is described as white, in his 20s with short brown hair.

He is of slim build and wearing possibly a black hooded top and also in the vehicle was a black or brown dog which was possibly a labrador.

Neighbourhood Inspector Paul Davies said: “Whilst incidents of this kind are rare, we are asking the community to be vigilant.

“I’d especially like to ask parents to remind their children of the possible dangers of speaking to strangers and to never accept lifts from people they do not know.

“Patrols are taking place in the area and my officers are working to identify the driver of this vehicle.

“If anyone has any information they think could help with our enquiries, please call 101 quoting log 399 21/5/17.”
