PILL’S carnival queen has been announced ahead of this year’s event, which will take place in Newport on Bank Holiday Monday, August 28.
Fourteen-year-old Angel Paul was chosen as this year’s queen while Connie Sefton, 14, and Caitlin Brockway, 16, were named as the attendants. Six flower girls and six court ladies were also chosen to assist them.
Angel said she was very excited. She said: “It is the first year I am in the float.
“My sister was the queen eight years ago so I am just following her footsteps.”
Angel, a student at Croesyceiliog School, said she loves running and that she recently did a 10km run for St David’s Hospice.
Carnival organiser Ann Barton said the queen competition went well and that all the girls were “lovely”.
She said the girls will now go to her florist shop in Commercial Road to try the dresses.
She added: “We are looking for lorry firms to lend us their lorries for the day.
“We have quite a few people who would like a lorry for their float.”
